A marathon eight-hour appeal hearing that featured two lengthy adjournments will have a disagreement between two major Canmore property owners decided by the Town’s appeal board.

“Should a shared community space be an outcome for the development, we have an intention to make a material financial commitment which could positively advance the financial viability of the project."

LETTER: Let’s hope the Town of Canmore has more important priorities for our community – such as housing, water resources and wildlife – and does not amend the Municipal Development Plan and land use bylaw to allow for the development of this so-called ‘wellness facility and boutique hotel’.

As a detachment run under a Municipal Police Service Agreement, the Town of Canmore would be responsible for the costs of construction.

EDITORIAL: There’s no greater need in the Bow Valley than housing, particularly when it comes to affordable units.

“We want to make sure they’re done well and we’ve taken a look at different possibilities and sussed out how a program or programs will work, the details with upcoming costs, the impact on various property owners. That means we need expertise hired and resources used and I think this money will be well spent in the long run.”

Part of the land being eyed for an affordable housing development is a forested area by the Bow River while the other part is a paid parking lot.

LETTER: Be bold and give the wildlife, vegetation and landscapes a breather from more, more, more.

“All of those years, those lands have always been slated for affordable housing. … It was always meant to be a neighbourhood with the underpinning being affordability. That was always the intent,”
